About Motional
Motional was formed in 2020 as a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv. The Motional team dates back to two of the world's first AV start-ups, nuTonomy (founded out of MIT) and Ottomatika (founded out of Carnegie Mellon), both of which were acquired by Aptiv and later spun out into Motional. Today, Motional is majority owned by Hyundai Motor Group.
- Our Technology: Motional is developing Level 4 autonomous vehicles for ride-hail and on-demand delivery applications.
- Our Robotaxi: Motional's all-electric IONIQ 5 robotaxi was developed through strategic collaboration with Hyundai.
- Our Global Operations: Headquartered in Boston, Motional has offices across the United States: in Pittsburgh, and Las Vegas, as well as in Singapore.
- Our Testing: Motional conducts public road testing in Pittsburgh and Las Vegas. Throughout our history, we have also tested in Boston, Los Angeles, and Singapore, exposing our system to diverse environments, behaviors, and conditions.
- Our Commercial Ride-hail Operations: Motional operated a public robotaxi service through its partnerships with Lyft and Uber for over six years, and conducted over 130,000 autonomous rides. Motional will be launching its commercial driverless service in 2026.
